Arabic OCR Built for Real Enterprise Documents

AlQari reads Arabic and English printed and scanned documents and returns machine-usable text — with per-region confidence and bounding boxes — so downstream extraction and validation have something reliable to work with. Accuracy varies with document quality.

Arabic OCR

Generic OCR wasn't built for Arabic

Most OCR engines were trained on Latin scripts. Arabic is cursive, its letter shapes change by position, diacritics carry meaning, and real business documents mix Arabic and English on the same page. Feed those into a generic engine and you get broken words, wrong reading order, and text you still have to retype by hand.

What it does

OCR that produces structured, checkable output

Arabic + English

Bilingual recognition with right-to-left handling, including pages that mix both scripts.

Printed & scanned

Digital PDFs and scanned images (PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG) go through the same pipeline.

Structured output

Clean JSON with recognized text, per-region confidence scores, and bounding boxes.

Layout & reading order

Page structure and reading order are preserved where the source document supports it.

Confidence you can act on

Low-confidence regions are flagged so you can route them for review instead of trusting them blindly.

REST API

Upload a document and retrieve OCR output over an authenticated REST API.

How it works

From image to usable text

  1. 1

    Ingest

Upload a PDF or image via the app, API, or a workflow trigger.

  2. 2

    Recognize

The Arabic OCR engine reads the page, handling RTL and mixed scripts.

  3. 3

    Structure

Text is returned as JSON with confidence and bounding boxes per region.

  4. 4

    Hand off

Feed the output into data extraction, validation, or your own systems.

Why Arabic is different

The Arabic-script challenges AlQari is built for

Cursive, position-dependent letters

Arabic letters connect and change shape depending on their position in a word. Recognition has to model the whole word, not isolated glyphs, to avoid splitting or merging characters.

Mixed RTL / LTR on one page

Invoices and letters routinely place English product codes, numbers, and dates inside Arabic sentences. AlQari keeps right-to-left and left-to-right runs in the correct order instead of scrambling them.

Numerals and diacritics

Arabic-Indic and Western digits appear side by side, and diacritics can change meaning. These are recognized rather than dropped.

Real-world scan quality

Skew, noise, stamps, and low-resolution scans are common. Output carries confidence so weak regions are visible instead of hidden.

FAQ

Arabic OCR questions

Does it support Arabic and English on the same page?

Yes. AlQari handles bilingual pages and keeps right-to-left and left-to-right text in the correct reading order where the source document supports it.

Does it handle scanned PDFs, not just digital ones?

Yes. Scanned PDFs and images (PDF, PNG, JPG, JPEG) go through the same OCR pipeline as digital documents. Very low-quality scans reduce accuracy, which is why every region carries a confidence score.

What does the OCR API return?

Structured JSON containing the recognized text, per-region confidence scores, and bounding boxes, so you can locate each piece of text on the page and decide what to trust.

How accurate is the OCR?

Accuracy depends on document quality — clean printed text reads far better than a noisy, skewed scan. Rather than promise a single number, AlQari returns confidence per region so you can route low-confidence text to review.

How is this different from a generic OCR tool?

Generic tools stop at text. AlQari's Arabic-first OCR is the input to extraction, validation, and workflows, so you get structured, checkable data instead of a wall of text to retype.

Which file formats are supported?

PDF, PNG, JPG, and JPEG are supported today.
